Plans are coming together for the GCA Convention in Cody, Wyoming, on September 4-7, 2013.

The Holiday Inn has been selected for our event. The details are shown on the next page and they are set up to start taking reservations now.
We will have our GCA registration there starting Wednesday afternoon, September 4 with a one-hour meet and greet during the late afternoon.
The CMP matches and sales events will be at the Cody Shooting Complex September 5-6.
Our banquet and annual convention will be Friday evening September 6 at the Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historic Center.
The farewell breakfast will be at the Holiday Inn Saturday morning September 7.
The museum admission will be $14 a person and will be good for three days.

We are encouraging members to display portions of their collections, and will be covering the costs associated with table rental for GCA members, as long as there are no items offered for sale. Prizes will be given as well, $500 for the best table award with plaque and every member who displays will also receive a plaque showing our appreciation.

The registration form, including information about tours will be enclosed in the Summer GCA Journal and will also be available on the GCA web site: www.thegca.org

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has extended another generous offer to partner with the GCA for the 2013 GCA Convention to be held in scenic Cody, Wyoming, just outside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park. September 4-7, 2013 are the dates to reserve to be a part of this event.

The CMP will conduct a John C. Garand Match, a Vintage Sniper two person Team Match, and a special sales event. The sales event will offer M1 Garand rifles, (including some special ones,) CMP memorabilia and ammunition. These events will be held at the Cody Shooting Complex:  ( www.codyshootingcomplex.org  ).

The Buffalo Bill Historical Center (BBHC) will host the GCA Convention. The BBHC (www.bbhc.org) includes five museums: Buffalo Bill, Yellowstone History, Plains Indian Peoples, Western Art, and a world-class Firearms Museum. The Cody Firearms Museum is the largest and most important collection of American and European firearms to be found anywhere. The most important element of the museum is its unparalleled collection of Winchester firearms, which encompasses not only prototypes but also familiar production models. Complementing these are equally important company collections chronicling the work of Colt, Marlin, Parker, Remington, Sharps and Spencer as well as other major American firms. The Museum has many of the Winchester, Marlin and L.C. Smith records.

Museum representatives are willing to have special up-close displays of firearms for GCA member examination (but not handling!), including exhibiting portions of the only known original set of drawings for the Gas Trap Garand! Other possibilities are to open the firearms exclusively for GCA members and guests after hours; provide guided tours of the museum; host a spouse luncheon; provide a tour of Yellowstone, guided by a naturalist from the BBHC Draper Museum of Natural History; provide a guided tour of Cody and the surrounding area to include the nearby WWII Heart Mountain Japanese Relocation Center museum ( www.heartmountain.org ); provide vendor sales and exhibit space; cater a lunch at the Cody Shooting Complex; and make the museum’s Coe Auditorium available for presentations and lectures. We will also offer members the opportunity to display portions of their collections. Gunsmiths and collectable parts dealers can also have sales tables. These will be set up in the area of the Firearms Museum, and will have security provided.

Warren Newman, the current Cody Firearms Museum Curator may be available to be a featured speaker at the banquet, for a presentation about the museum. Orest Michaels from CMP headquarters will attend, always a popular speaker for informing us of the latest happenings at CMP. Chairman of the Board of CMP, Judy Legerski, is also expected to be on hand.

As there is so much to see and do in the vicinity of Cody, it is suggested that members consider scheduling at least a week of vacation here. Cody is a one-hour drive from the East entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The South exit from Yellowstone leads directly to Grand Tetons National Park and the picturesque town of Jackson Hole. The scenery is among the most spectacular on earth, and there is so much to do, it is an exciting destination for singles, couples and families alike.

Cody’s Yellowstone Regional Airport has daily scheduled flights by United Airlines connecting through Denver, and Delta Airlines connecting through Salt Lake City. Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty rental cars are available. Cody is accessible from I-80 from the south and I-90 from the north.

Mark your calendar for September 4-7, 2013, and watch the web site ( www.thegca.org ) and upcoming issues of the GCA Journal as planning continues and reservations become available.
