In 2008, the GCA will again sponsor members shooting their M1 rifles at the National Rifle Matches, but there will be one difference from prior years. The GCA will also pay the entry fees for members who shoot their M1 rifles in the National John C. Garand Match as discussed below.

It is the goal of the GCA Board of Directors to have more people, who have some kind of a zero for their M1 rifles, shoot their M1 rifles as members of the GCA teams in the CMP team matches at Camp Perry this year. Mike Gingher or Jim Adell will enter and pay for the team entries. The GCA will provide souvenir GCA Camp Perry T-Shirts to the people who do shoot on or provide direct support to the GCA Teams.

People who desire to compete as members of or provide direct support to the GCA teams should send their names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers and brief descriptions of their experiences shooting their M1 rifles by email to jim_adell@yahoo.com  or by US Mail to:
                                        Jim Adell
                                        2409 Frances Dr.
                                        Loveland, CO 80537

Members who decide to come to Camp Perry at the last minute may still be able to shoot on GCA teams but must see Mike or Jim before the deadline for entering the team matches, which is the afternoon two days before the matches.

It is possible to shoot the Springfield Match and shoot the National Infantry Trophy Team Match. Register for the Springfield Match but state that you are firing the NTIT. It is not possible to shoot both the Carbine Match and the National Trophy Team Match.

In order to assist members getting “Camp Perry zeros” for their M1 rifles, the GCA will pay the entry fees for a maximum of 20 members to shoot their M1 rifles in the President’s Rifle Match on Monday July 28 and/or the National Trophy Individual Rifle Match on Tuesday July 29 and/or the Hearst Doubles Team Match on Wednesday July 30 and/or the John C. Garand Match Saturday August 2 and who shoot these rifles on a GCA team in the National Trophy Team Match on Thursday July 31 and/or the National Infantry Trophy Team Match Friday August 1.

Members who were GCA members as of April 1, 2008 who want to take advantage of shooting the individual CMP matches must enter themselves in the President’s Rifle Match and/or the National Trophy Individual Rifle Match and/or the Hearst Doubles Team Match and/or the John C. Garand Match and pay the entry fees of $35 and/or $40 and/or $45 to the CMP.  Members who actually compete on a GCA team will have these entry fees refunded by the GCA. Information on entering these individual matches can be found online at www.odcmp.com/NationalMatches, or by calling the CMP at: 888-276-0796 or 419-635-2141, Ext 1112, competitions. Members must arrange for their own lodging.

Information on the town of Port Clinton can be found at:  www.portclinton.org and www.portclintonohio.com. If you desire to stay at Camp Perry, call the Camp Perry Clubhouse rental office at 888-889-7010 or 614-336-6214. You may request a copy of the entry form and program by writing to:
                              Civilian Marksmanship Program
                              P. O. Box 576
                              Port Clinton, OH 43452
State that you will be competing in the rifle phase. Your request may also be sent via email to: competitions@odcmp.com. Be sure to include your mailing address.

Orest Michaels, the Chief Operating Officer of the CMP, has volunteered to support this GCA activity by providing CMP M2 Ball 30-06 ammunition to be shot in these matches. As both standard grade and match conditioned M1 rifles shooting either 30-06 or 7.62mm NATO are legal in these matches, members who desire to shoot match ammunition or hand loads or the 7.62mm ammunition will have to bring their own ammunition. Mike Gingher will make arrangements for the ammunition to be drawn from the CMP and to be issued to members. Details will be in the next GCA Journal.

It is hoped that members will also shoot in the squadded practice the afternoon of Sunday July 27. CMP ammunition will also be provided for the practice. It is recommended that members participate in the Small Arms Firing School on Saturday July 26 and Sunday morning July 27. All members who want to shoot in the National Infantry Trophy Team Match (NTIT) on Friday August 1st MUST attend the NTIT clinic conducted by the US Marine Corps Rifle Team at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday July 30.

Members should plan on meeting each afternoon at the flag pole about one hour after the completion of firing starting Monday July 28. Mike will be working at the Armalite booth on commercial row and Jim will be staying in the Navy barracks.

For people who do not want to actually shoot but do want participate in the GCA comradeship, we do need help in the two team matches. The GCA will pay $100 each to two people who pull targets for each GCA team in the National Trophy Team Match on Thursday July 31. Each team also needs two scorers and a coach. For the National Infantry Trophy Team Match Friday August 1 each team needs two coaches, a scorer and a person to pick up the fired brass. These people will be considered team members and included in the team pictures to be published in the GCA Journal and receive souvenir GCA Camp Perry T-Shirts.
