GCA Teams at Camp Perry

Photo by Lieutenant Commander Web Wright - US Navy Retired.

Forthy-nine GCA members fired their M1 rifles at the 2009 National Rifle Matches at Camp Perry or directly supported the GCA Teams.  We entered five teams in each of the National Trophy Team Match and the National Trophy Infantry Team Match.

The principal accomplishment was the GCA “Blind Hogs” team winning the trophy plaques for firing the high score by a team firing the M1 Garand Rifle in the National Trophy Infantry Team.  Their score, as well as the GCA Wisconsin and GCA Indiana teams, was higher than the high score fired the past two years.  The Director of Civilian Marksmanship, Gary Anderson, proudly stated that there were five teams firing the M1 Garand Rifle in this match which is the highest since the M14 and M16 type rifles began to be the main rifles fired in this match.  Picture 3 shows Colonel Brown Ohio National Guard presenting the trophies to the team.

GCA member Jonathan O’Neal won the unlimited Garand Match Category.

The GCA “Over the Hill Gang” was the high GCA team in the National Trophy Team Match.
