Hey GCA Members!!
Many of you are receiving the Spring ’13 GCA Journal now. And many are making use of the “All In One” mail order form as your renewal form.
Please remember, ALL of your information MUST be filled out on the front of the form and signatures must be on the back!
Checks and envelopes are separated from the forms early in the process (this is true with any GCA mail in form). If you do not fill out your information it makes it very difficult to decipher who you are using your signature alone. Also, we check every form to make sure that we have all of your information correct and up to date so that you don’t miss a single issue of The GCA Journal.

Just remember, if there’s a blank space on any form that we send you….it’s there for a reason!

DON’T LEAVE IT BLANK! ;-)

Thanks you for your continued support of the GCA!

The Garand Collectors Association Board of Directors is thrilled to announce a Special Collectors Edition of an Exciting new DVD titled:

“America’s Rifle – The M1 Garand”

The GCA, as approved by our Board of Directors, used surplus funds to underwrite the production of “America’s Rifle – The M1 Garand” by Semper Vi Entertainment. We are proud of this worthwhile project, and it perfectly aligns with our mission statement. As a bonus to our membership, the Board of Directors additionally approved a free copy of the DVD for current members, those renewing memberships, as well as new members with a cut-off date of 15 December 2012. As a result of an oversight on our part, that information was not posted correctly on our website. A new cut-off date was established as 22 February 2013, and that is the date currently published on our website. It is important to note that unpaid volunteers comprise the GCA leadership in addition to the unpaid volunteers who write, edit and help publish the GCA Journal, our world-class magazine. For those who paid for a DVD that otherwise would have received a gratis copy, please contact our management company, if you desire, to make reasonable arrangements that will make you whole. Additionally, if you are still waiting on your copy to arrive, please be patient with our management team.

This Project was made possible via GCA’s reserve funds.
It was produced to further the education about this wonderful rifle.

In concert with SemperVi Entertainment, this video is professionally produced and historically correct.

In addition to the feature film, there are several outstanding Bonus Features that we know you’ll enjoy.

Copies of the DVD can be order directly from the GCA’s E-Store:

http://www.thegca.org/store/dvd_gca_americas_rifle.html

We have listed quantities of 1 through 6 as separate items in the GCA E-Store in order to bundle the DVD price with the appropriate shipping.

Quantity discounts apply to 6 or more DVDs.

If you need assistance:

1-816-471-2005 or email: info@thegca.org

Copies can now be ordered by “mail-in” form: All In One GCA Product Order Form

From: Gary S.
To: GCA Board of DirectorsThank You for the great DVD that I received on Saturday. I watched the entire thing, including
the bonus extras, without stopping.I was amazed at the quality and the insight to the history of the M1 along with all of the bonus material, which just added to the experience. The quality of this DVD is as good as it gets, and I believe anyone who owns a Garand would want to own a copy.

Thank you for the information that I always wanted to know about my Garands without reading a series of books to learn some of what you presented. I also liked the coverage of other military rifles in comparison to give a better prospective as to the history of the M1.

I am sure that I will watch this many times again in the future and especially when I finally go to break my Garands down for a good cleaning – that part was very valuable.

Thanks again for the great addition to my membership – this is certainly an example of going above and beyond expectations for what is expected as a member of any organization.

(you may also download this update as a PDF, click here)

Plans are coming together for the GCA Convention in Cody, Wyoming, on September 4-7, 2013.

The Holiday Inn has been selected for our event. The details are shown on the next page and they are set up to start taking reservations now.
We will have our GCA registration there starting Wednesday afternoon, September 4 with a one-hour meet and greet during the late afternoon.
The CMP matches and sales events will be at the Cody Shooting Complex September 5-6.
Our banquet and annual convention will be Friday evening September 6 at the Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Historic Center.
The farewell breakfast will be at the Holiday Inn Saturday morning September 7.
The museum admission will be $14 a person and will be good for three days.

We are encouraging members to display portions of their collections, and will be covering the costs associated with table rental for GCA members, as long as there are no items offered for sale. Prizes will be given as well, $500 for the best table award with plaque and every member who displays will also receive a plaque showing our appreciation.

The registration form, including information about tours will be enclosed in the Summer GCA Journal and will also be available on the GCA web site: www.thegca.org

Attendees should make their own reservations at the Holiday Inn, 1701 Sheridan Ave, Cody, WY, by contacting the hotel directly at 307-587-5555 (ask for group reservations). Room rates are $129 + 8% tax. In order to obtain our group rate, be sure to mention the group code “ZFV, CMP Matches & Sales Event” when making your reservations.

The cutoff date for booking rooms is August 5, 2013, but please make them sooner.

The Holiday Inn offers free parking and wireless internet. No pets are allowed. The Holiday Inn is part of the Blair Hotel Chain: www.blairhotels.com

Full service RV accommodations are also available at The Ponderosa, 1815 8th St, Cody, WY, (which is within walking distance to the Holiday Inn.) Contact Ms. Skip Richardson or Ms. Linda Rednour, at 307 587-9203, or you can take a look at www.codyponderrosa.com, to get more information. Please note the Cody Ponderosa does not accept credit cards.

(you may also download this article as a PDF, click here)

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) has extended another generous offer to partner with the GCA for the 2013 GCA Convention to be held in scenic Cody, Wyoming, just outside the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park. September 4-7, 2013 are the dates to reserve to be a part of this event.

The CMP will conduct a John C. Garand Match, a Vintage Sniper two person Team Match, and a special sales event. The sales event will offer M1 Garand rifles, (including some special ones,) CMP memorabilia and ammunition. These events will be held at the Cody Shooting Complex: ( www.codyshootingcomplex.org ).

The Buffalo Bill Historical Center (BBHC) will host the GCA Convention. The BBHC (www.bbhc.org) includes five museums: Buffalo Bill, Yellowstone History, Plains Indian Peoples, Western Art, and a world-class Firearms Museum. The Cody Firearms Museum is the largest and most important collection of American and European firearms to be found anywhere. The most important element of the museum is its unparalleled collection of Winchester firearms, which encompasses not only prototypes but also familiar production models. Complementing these are equally important company collections chronicling the work of Colt, Marlin, Parker, Remington, Sharps and Spencer as well as other major American firms. The Museum has many of the Winchester, Marlin and L.C. Smith records.

Museum representatives are willing to have special up-close displays of firearms for GCA member examination (but not handling!), including exhibiting portions of the only known original set of drawings for the Gas Trap Garand! Other possibilities are to open the firearms exclusively for GCA members and guests after hours; provide guided tours of the museum; host a spouse luncheon; provide a tour of Yellowstone, guided by a naturalist from the BBHC Draper Museum of Natural History; provide a guided tour of Cody and the surrounding area to include the nearby WWII Heart Mountain Japanese Relocation Center museum ( www.heartmountain.org ); provide vendor sales and exhibit space; cater a lunch at the Cody Shooting Complex; and make the museum’s Coe Auditorium available for presentations and lectures. We will also offer members the opportunity to display portions of their collections. Gunsmiths and collectable parts dealers can also have sales tables. These will be set up in the area of the Firearms Museum, and will have security provided.

Warren Newman, the current Cody Firearms Museum Curator may be available to be a featured speaker at the banquet, for a presentation about the museum. Orest Michaels from CMP headquarters will attend, always a popular speaker for informing us of the latest happenings at CMP. Chairman of the Board of CMP, Judy Legerski, is also expected to be on hand.

As there is so much to see and do in the vicinity of Cody, it is suggested that members consider scheduling at least a week of vacation here. Cody is a one-hour drive from the East entrance to Yellowstone National Park. The South exit from Yellowstone leads directly to Grand Tetons National Park and the picturesque town of Jackson Hole. The scenery is among the most spectacular on earth, and there is so much to do, it is an exciting destination for singles, couples and families alike.

Cody’s Yellowstone Regional Airport has daily scheduled flights by United Airlines connecting through Denver, and Delta Airlines connecting through Salt Lake City. Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz and Thrifty rental cars are available. Cody is accessible from I-80 from the south and I-90 from the north.

Mark your calendar for September 4-7, 2013, and watch the web site ( www.thegca.org ) and upcoming issues of the GCA Journal as planning continues and reservations become available.

Interested members can contact our office at 816-471-2055, by email at info@thegca.org , or the Cody Chamber of Commerce by email at pctc@codychamber.org or at the address below to request additional tourist information.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!
Many of you are receiving a second notice for renewal in the mail. Please note that at this time there is about a month and a half lead time on processing of renewals. We still have hundreds of unprocessed renewals to get through. This lead time will decrease as we get farther along in the renewal process.

IF YOU HAVE MAILED YOUR RENEWAL IN PLEASE DISREGARD THE NOTICE.
Your renewal has simply not yet been processed.

If you renewed online, you should have received a confirmation email, however your renewal must still be processed through the GCA office.

Please understand that calling the GCA office to check on your renewal will only extend our lead time and we will not be able to quickly locate your particular envelope. You will receive your new membership card in the mail once your renewal has been processed. Renewals are processed in the order that they are received.

Thank you for your patience and for your continued support of the GCA!

Also, the CMP is well aware of this lag time and will give a 30 day grace period. If we have your renewal in the office and the CMP is not showing you as a current member we will be happy to notify the CMP that your membership is current, just not actually processed yet.

I hope that this will alleviate some of your questions and as always….

Thank you for your continued support of the GCA!

The M1 for Vets program also applied for and received funding for 2012. Their grant will be used toward travel expenses to bring 22 participating vets to Camp Perry, Ohio, for the National Matches. This is the third consecutive year GCA has granted funds to this organization for combat-wounded vets. To date, GCA has proudly provided grants totaling $17,000 to M1 for Vets.
