Articles being edited for the Fall 2009 GCA Journal promise to make it another blockbuster.

Those being considered include:

Biographies of candidates for the Board election, including some new applicants

A comparison of two very early original Gas Traps 54 serial numbers apart

An fascinating interview with a Korean War sniper, and a surprise

A review of Garand bayonets and scabbards

A Viet Nam M1 and the dramatic story of how it was captured

A GCA presentation to an extraordinary young woman

Details on the award of a Navy trophy Rifle fresh from USMC rebuild

The Summer 2009 issue was also a good one.  Some of the articles include:

Two countries on opposite sides of the world that experimented with producing the M1.
   Color photos of their prototypes!
A Quiz returns to test your knowledge of Winchesters vs. Springfields

Photos of unusual gun show finds

A detailed study of the history of a popular M1 accessory

An important new development in the controversy "To Restore or Not?"

The worst M1 Thumb in history

   A notorious fake exposed

The 2008 GCA Convention at Hampton, Virgina, was a great success!

And The Winner Is …

The September 2008 American Rifleman magazine features a major article on the “Top Ten Infantry Rifles” of all time.  It comes as no surprise to us that the M1 Garand was Number 1.  The article concludes the M1 description with:

“… it was John Garand who caught lightning in a bottle and harnessed into an earthbound version of the hammer of Thor, the M1.  And it was this, the greatest infantry rifle of all time, that helped change the course of human history.”

The rest of the list was:

  2. Kalashnikov AK-47

  3. Mauser 98

  4. M16

  5. 1853 Enfield Rifle-Musket

  6. Lee-Enfield

  7. StG 44

  8. FN FAL

  9. Dreyse 1841

10.  Henry Rifle
